Maison Lanson is one of the oldest champagne houses in France. It was founded in 1760 by Jean-Baptiste Lanson, one of the Knights of the Order of Malta. The idea for the Lanson Cross originated in 1798 when the founder's son, being a member of the Hospitaller's Order of Malta (the oldest charity in the world, founded in 1048), decided to use the Maltese Cross to create Maison Lanson’s logo. Today, the Lanson Cross engraved on each redesigned and recycled bottle is a symbol of sincerity, kindness and hospitality.
